Journey through Historic Periods
Travel back in time and discover how the world has changed throughout history with the Junior Historians Club: Time Traveler Collection.
Part of the Junior Historians Club educational series by Help for Small Museums (HFSM), this ready-to-use curriculum takes young historians on a journey through fascinating periods of the past. Children explore the people, places, events, inventions, ideas, and everyday life that helped define different eras while discovering how one period of history connects to the next.
Designed for children ages 6–9, the Time Traveler Collection introduces history in an approachable and exciting way through short lessons, historical images, timelines, activities, games, creative projects, and opportunities for children to imagine themselves in the past. Young historians aren’t simply learning dates and names. They’re investigating what made each period unique and thinking about how life has changed over time.
Whether you’re leading a museum education program, teaching in a classroom, homeschooling your children, or organizing a history club, this curriculum provides everything you need to turn history into an adventure through time.
A Full Season of Programming
Each Junior Historians Club Collection gives you everything you need to offer a complete season of children’s programming. Museums and organizations can advertise their own Junior Historians Club, register participants for free or charge a program fee, and get started without having to develop a curriculum from scratch. Simply print the appropriate workbook for each child each week and you’re ready to go.
Every collection also includes additional resources, including hands-on craft and activity ideas, book recommendations, and other ways to expand each historical period. Use the resources exactly as provided or as inspiration to create a program that works for your museum, organization, classroom, or group.
Travel Through History
The Time Traveler Collection helps children understand that history is made up of different periods, each shaped by the people who lived during them and the events, ideas, inventions, and cultures that changed the world.
Throughout the collection, young historians will travel through different eras and investigate topics such as:
- Important people who shaped their time
- Major events and turning points
- Historic places and landmarks
- Inventions and discoveries
- Daily life in the past
- Art, architecture, and culture
- Historical vocabulary
- Timelines and chronology
- How societies changed over time
- Connections between the past and the world today
Activities encourage children to do more than memorize information. They’ll compare different periods, answer historical questions, interpret images, complete puzzles and trivia, imagine themselves living in the past, and decide which people, places, events, and inventions they believe were most important.

Designed for Flexible Learning
The Junior Historians Club was created to make teaching history simple, engaging, and enjoyable. The Time Traveler Collection can become a multi-week journey through history at a museum, a homeschool history unit, a classroom enrichment program, a history club, or a summer learning experience.
Each workbook can stand on its own while also contributing to a larger exploration of the past, allowing educators to use the entire collection in sequence or choose the historical periods that best fit their program.
Think Like a Historian
Time Traveler encourages children to look beyond dates and discover the stories behind history. Why did people live the way they did? Which inventions changed everyday life? Which events changed the course of history? What would it have been like to actually live during another era?
Children are encouraged to observe, compare, investigate, ask questions, form opinions, and use their imaginations as they journey from one historical period to another.
A Curriculum You’ll Use Again and Again
Unlike a traditional workbook that’s completed once and put away, every Junior Historians Club collection is designed for repeated use. Museums can build successful children’s programs year after year, homeschool families can reuse the curriculum with younger siblings, and educators can easily adapt activities for new groups of learners.
It’s an investment in a flexible educational resource that continues to inspire young historians long after their first journey through time.
